GROWING DANCE & MUSIC ARTISTS
Joaquin Miller Elementary School | Funded Fall 2017
In the 2017-18 school year, Miller Elementary School was excited to bring in teaching artists to provide music workshops for all students in Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten, and dance workshops for all students in 1st grade. Students received weekly instruction for eight weeks, culminating in performances for parents in the ninth week.
Providing the workshops had a deep impact on the students; they “were engaged and participated during the workshops. They gained confidence in their singing and dancing abilities, as well as further developed their Language Arts & English Language Development skills.”
“One of the first grade parents shared that she has a very active son and that he doesn’t like to sit a lot. The dance workshops provided extra stimulation and made her son concentrate more in class because he got to take out his energy in a positive way and learn something new.” -Judy Hession, Miller Elementary Principal
